What Is Semaglutide?
Semaglutide is a 31-amino-acid analog of human glucagon-like peptide-1 and one of the most widely studied selective GLP-1 receptor agonists. Its molecular formula is C187H291N45O59. Two design changes define the molecule: an α-aminoisobutyric acid substitution at position 8, which resists cleavage by the enzyme DPP-4, and a C18 fatty diacid joined to lysine 26 through a spacer, which drives reversible albumin binding.
Those modifications make semaglutide a textbook case of peptide half-life engineering, and laboratories use it well beyond incretin biology. Common applications include GLP-1 receptor binding and activation assays, glycemic-regulation and satiety-pathway models, head-to-head comparison with dual and triple agonists, and chromatographic method development where a well-characterized acylated peptide is needed as a standard. V8 Peptides supplies semaglutide as a 10 mg lyophilized powder.

Reconstitution & Storage for Research
Semaglutide ships dry because the freeze-dried state is far more stable than a solution. Before use it is dissolved in a suitable laboratory diluent, and the volume chosen sets the stock concentration.
Concentration math
- Adding 2 mL of diluent to a 10 mg vial gives 5 mg/mL.
- Adding 1 mL of diluent to a 10 mg vial gives 10 mg/mL.
- Adding 2.5 mL of diluent to a 10 mg vial gives 4 mg/mL.
- At 5 mg/mL, every 0.2 mL of stock contains 1 mg of semaglutide.
The general rule is concentration (mg/mL) = vial content (mg) ÷ diluent volume (mL). Our calculator applies it for you and converts between milligrams and micrograms. Add the liquid slowly along the vial wall, give the cake a minute to wet, and swirl until no particles remain. Acylated peptides can foam, so do not shake.
Storage conditions
Unopened vials belong in a refrigerator at 2–8 °C; for long-term storage use −20 °C. Keep them dry, dark and away from heat sources. Reconstituted material should stay refrigerated, and dividing the stock into aliquots prevents the repeated freeze-thaw cycling that degrades peptides. See semaglutide storage and stability for a fuller discussion of temperature and light.
Quality & Testing
V8 Peptides releases semaglutide only after HPLC confirms the lot at ≥98% purity. A certificate of analysis is issued for each batch and published where anyone can read it, which lets a purchasing lab verify the material against its own acceptance criteria.
- HPLC purity result for the lot
- Identity and sequence confirmation
- Batch number and test date for traceability
- Supplied form and storage guidance
Certificates are posted on our COA page. If you are comparing vendors, semaglutide purity testing explains which figures on the report matter and why.
