Every research peptide listing makes the same claims — high purity, tested, research-grade. What actually separates suppliers is which of those claims come with documentation attached, and which are just words on a page. Here's what to check before committing to a vendor.
1. Independent, third-party batch testing
Internal testing is analysis a supplier runs on its own material, with no outside verification. It isn't worthless, but it isn't independent either. Third-party testing means an outside laboratory with no financial stake in the result ran the analysis — that separation is what makes a purity figure credible rather than self-reported.
2. Batch-specific Certificates of Analysis
A COA is only useful if it's tied to the exact lot you received. A generic specification sheet that could describe any batch a supplier has ever produced tells you almost nothing about the vial in front of you. Ask whether the lot number on the COA matches the lot number printed on the vial — if a supplier can't answer that, treat the documentation as decorative. 3. Measured purity with the method named
"≥98% pure" means little without knowing how that number was generated. A credible listing names the analytical method — typically HPLC — and ideally pairs it with mass spectrometry for identity confirmation. See HPLC vs. mass spectrometry for why both matter together.
4. Defined molecular identity

5. Honest labeling and storage guidance
Research-use-only labeling that's actually followed through in a supplier's own marketing — no dosing language, no therapeutic claims — is a signal of how seriously that supplier treats the regulatory line it operates within. Storage guidance should match what's chemically true for the compound (see our guide to storing research peptides), not generic boilerplate.
6. Traceable sourcing and reliable shipping
A supplier should be able to speak to where and how its material is synthesized, and should ship in a way appropriate to a lyophilized compound — see how research peptides are shipped — without delays that leave a shipment exposed to temperature extremes longer than necessary.
