What is MT-2 (Melanotan II)?
Melanotan II, abbreviated MT-2, is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH). Its sequence, Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-NH2, is closed into a ring by a lactam bridge between the aspartic acid and lysine side chains. The compound was developed in academic research at the University of Arizona.
MT-2 is a non-selective agonist across several melanocortin receptor subtypes, which makes it a standard reference ligand in melanocortin pharmacology. Typical uses include MC1R-driven melanogenesis models in pigment cells and MC4R signaling studies. It is supplied as lyophilized powder in a 10 mg vial.

Reconstitution & storage for research
Adding 2 mL of diluent to the 10 mg vial gives 5 mg/mL; adding 1 mL gives 10 mg/mL. For receptor assays that use small quantities, the 5 mg/mL stock is easier to work with: a 20 µL aliquot contains 100 µg, and a 1:10 dilution of the stock yields 0.5 mg/mL. A sterile diluent such as bacteriostatic water is the usual choice for multi-use research vials. Add diluent gradually against the glass, allow the cake to dissolve on its own for a minute or two, and finish with a slow swirl. Shaking is unnecessary and can introduce foam.
